My friend wants some of my songs from my itunes however when I plug in her 30GB Video Ipod which is formatted for Windows bc her personal computer is a PC it won't allow me to update and says I need to restore the ipod to the original factory settings in order to upload my songs onto her ipod. It recognizes her iPod on my desktop just not in iTunes.
My questions are:
1.) Is there any way to get the songs she wants onto her PC formatted Ipod from my Mac Computer?
2.) Is it possible to follow the prompt to restore to the factory settings so I can give her my songs without losing hers or does that clear her ipod altogether?
3.) What are the alternatives??
Thanks for any help!!

Actually, I don't think this issue has anything to do with PC or Mac formatting. The problem is that her iPod is set to sync with her computer, and if you connect it to another computer, it will ask you if you want to sync with it instead, erasing the contents of the iPod. If you set it to "manual update" (on her computer) you should be able to copy songs to her iPod from your computer. This turns the iPod into a big hard disk onto which you manually copy (and delete) songs. Ultimately, though, it may be simpler to just burn a CD-R with the music files on it and give it to her.
Either that, you can enable hard drive use and copy it to the hard drive section of the iPod. She can then manually copy those to iTunes on her computer, which will then add them to the "music" section of her iPod. Then she can delete the ones on the hard drive section. Does that make sense?

The ipod is Windows formatted. That's what we're talking about, so the answer is yes.

Not only can you add songs to that iPod from a PC, you can do it from your Mac, too. What you can't do is update the iPod's firmware from a Mac. THAT is whta the "PC/Mac Formatting" is all about.

Well, that's a little misleading. You can't take a Mac-formatted iPod and use it on a PC without special software. So Mac/Windows formatting clearly affects more than just software updates.

True, but the biggest issue is still which platform you can do updates from. A Mac-only user won't have any issues, but a user with both platforms will. Knowing that a "PC formatted" iPod can get songs from both platforms but only updates from a PC is a simple rule to remember, right?
