My 10gb 3G iPod is running close to its 10gb mark, and I've been wondering if it's time to invest in a bigger iPod. I'm really not into all that video and color stuff -- all I really need is an iPod that plays music. So after browsing the internet I found the 4G 40gb iPod by HP, only 180$. I figured, hey, that sounds like a good deal to me. But I was wondering if anyone here has an iPod by HP and if they have had any problems with it.

By the way, I can get a 3 year warranty for only 20$.

HP iPods are just iPods with HP branding and no official support from Apple. And that's not a bad deal, but you may want to compare it to what you could find on the Apple discount online store, on eBay as well as some of the discount sites. Also be aware of the fact that the 5Gs have been around for a while and will get refreshed (or replaced by the "true" iPod video) soon, so if you buy an iPod now you may feel the sting of buyer's remorse.

Yeah, however, it would take months/years for the "true" iPod video to drop to a price that I could afford.

Is that all? It's just different support? There's no difference in quality?

"Extended Manufacturer's Guarantee"

The iPod comes with a 90 day manufacturer's guarantee out of the box. For 20$, it will be extended 3 years.
