Hey. My brother and his wife just got a brand new 2006 Honda Accord (to go with their '06 Honda CRV). Anyways, the Accord came with the iPod car kit, which is fine a dandy. The stock sound system and head unit is AWESOME. Best stock stereo I've ever heard, and having the iPod kit with the direct line is great. However, the functionality of the iPod kit is very limited. It basiclly works as an oversized iPod Shuffle. When you hook it up to the stereo you're only able to skip songs and skip albums through the stereo controls...can't play playlists, can't pick and choose what you want to hear. And you're not able to control the iPod through the iPod controls themselves, as the "Ok to Disconnect" screens is up the whole time you're connected.

Does anyone know of any software I'd be able to put on the iPod to have a bit more functionality, or any other workarounds for that matter?

Thanks a lot!

Nope. This is a limitation of the car connection, NOT the iPod. The head unit isn't built to natively handle the iPod's display and other functions, so all you can do is what you've said.

Damnit. This is what I was afraid of. I thought maybe there was a piece of software I could use on the iPod that would throw it into Play List mode or something like that. I realize however that the stock head unit is what's hindering the playback capabilities. Just wish there was some sort of workaround. I'll keep working at it. I can't believe that random is the only way it will play back.

iREZ. Your TC, you mean a Scion tC?
I have the 2006 Scion xA and the iPod head unit is amazing. You plug in the iPod with the Phillips dock cable and then the head unit says "iPod Connected".

You can't use the iPod while it is plugged in, but it does charge.
You use the dial on the bottom right of the head unit. Tapping it upwards goes into the iPod menu. Playlists, Artists, Albums, Songs. Turning the knob left or right goes through the menus and clicking it in selects it.
The head unit has a one line display and with that you will see all the albums/artists when you scroll through them.
You can even use the steering wheel controls.

If anyone wants photos or anything I'll take some, but if you're thinking about it, the Scion head unit (Phillips, not sure of model) is great.

Maybe there is some way to navigate through the iPod using the Honda head unit. I can't seem to figure it out though. If anyone stumbles across anything on this, post it up if ya could.

I have a 2006 Accord EX Sedan and the Honda Music Link. Since upgrading to iTunes 7 it has stopped working with my wife's 30GB iPod 5G. It does however still work with my 4GB Nano. When the 5G iPod is connected, it shows the 'check' and 'ok to disconnect' but the head unit flashes 6.

Has anyone else seen this? I have heard that there is a 1.3 version of the HML on the horizon, but I have not installed any software. Will the dealer be able to update the unit's firmware?

My 06 Scion xB has the iPod control unit. Great stereo unit, great tool. It's a Pioneer by the way, or at least the xB is. I have a 1st Gen nano, newest software, iTunes 7.02, no issues. As far as the 06 Honda Accord not working with iPod, heres what you do: Take it back to the dealership, get your money back, go buy a 06 Scion xB that has better mileage, more space, a better sound system, that was designed to work with the iPod, and take the additional $5,000 you just saved and buy a new MacBook Pro, and send me the other $2,000.
