I have an iPod Shuffle which I plug into my iBook's USB port to charge the Shuffle's battery. When my iBook goes to sleep, the Shuffle appears to no longer get charged up. Is there a way I could get the SHuffle to receive power even though the iBook is asleep?

When an iBook goes to sleep, its USB ports are turned off-no power at all. You can't change that. I never depend on my computer to charge my iPod-I use the AC adapter I got for it-precisely because of this issue. It's worth the time and money to me...

I had the same problem when charging my ipod with my macbook. I turned my isight on in imovie. That made it so my laptop didn't go to sleep. It didn't work in photobooth though (at least with my experience).

This is only helpful if you have an isight.
If anyone has any other suggestions please reply.

Put a movie in, or change the preferences under System Preferences> Energy Saver.

As the previous poster mentioned, it would seem easier to set the sleep options to "never" in Energy Saver preferences.

hmm...i have this "super cool" usb extension cable that lights up on the ends when there is activity, and it stays lit up whenever my ibook goes to sleep. weird... it's plugged into a pro keyboard with a cheapy usb mouse plugged into it, so i know those don't have their own power source to keep the cable lit up...

get a cheap powered USB 2.0 hub and plug the iPod into that one. Make sure it is a "powered" USB 2 hub and not the "unpowered" variety.
