Explain to me how the Creative Zen Vision

ZEN Vision - Live life your way with music, photos and video

isn't KILLING Apple and the iPod? Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-iPod or anti-Apple, but check this **** out! My co-worker pointed it out to me and there is no reason why I'd buy an iPod or even the new one that was supposed to come out months ago.

What are you're guys thougths on this topic? With all the features tha Zen has, it puts iPods to shame.

Because people who have bought any music or videos from iTMS are forever chained to the iPod line.

Yes, I agree Mark, there is a momentum factor there. There's also a style choice to be made, and that counts for a lot but is not something you can measure in rational terms.

The iPods' popularity, in my opinion, also points out a fact that I learned when I purchased my first PC a couple years back (after having owned nothing but Macs). To a great extent, Windows consumer level software blows, and Mac consumer level software works. iTunes is much better in every measure of basic usability and average people are agreeing with me one iPod at a time.

Remember that the overwhelming majority of iPod owners are not computer geeks like you and me. They just want an easy-to-comprehend, conceptually simple hardware/software combo to listen to music. That's it.

The ipod is a lot more compact and portable. Not to mention that Apple is a trustworth brand, much more then then others and they have an Amazing ipod config(for mac users) with apps. i do have to agree with you that apple needs to get a move on with this new ipod, and putting out colors would be nice(maybe a green,or blue,or some color ipod?, something apple did w/ the ipodmini or their old imacs)

That is nonsense. If a really superior hardware appears people will just burn and re-rip their music removing any DRM and then proceed to play it on their WMA players. The fact that only a handful of people have done that suggests that the iPod doesn't have any vastly superior competitors that make the effort worthwhile.

That said, the success of Windows has also proved that you don't need to be vastly better, you just need to be good enough.

Size.

Interface.

Style.

I also believe that being able to operate what you have is much more important than having everything - in terms of features AND equipment.

Cramming features into the Creative Zen sounds nice but it doesn't make it a better experience....

I have a cellphone that has voice recording, calendar/appointments, and address book. I use only the address book for storing my contact numbers.

Likewise with the Creative Zen. FM radio sounds nice to have but if you have 30 GBs worth of music, why bother going back to radio? The voice recorder is also nice but how many people have used the voice recording capabilities on their cellphones?

And the Zen Vision doesn't really have an equivalent iTunes music store to make it a value-added bonus...

Much in the same way, throwing more money into a problem won't necessarily solve anything. Neither will adding more features to a portable media device will make it better....

The only thing the Zune can have that all the other supposed 'iPod-killers' didnt have is a giga-$$$$$-marketing.

Other than that, there's no reason it wont die out too.

For me, the biggest selling point is price.

iPod 30GB - $299

Zen 30GB - $399
I gotta have more cowbell.

I understand what everyone has said and I know you'd save 100 bills buying a 30gb iPod. What about the new "True" video iPods that will be hitting the stores sometime this year. Months ago, correct me if I'm wrong, but the possible price wasn't $299... So say you can either get the Creative for $399 or the new Video iPod for nearly $500!! What to doooo... I'd personally stick with iPods and Apple.

I really doubt that they will raise the price on the "true video" iPod. It may be $50, but not $200. Apple won't be able to sell as many iPods if they are that high, that is as high as the original iPod was. I also doubt they will come out this year, maybe early next year.

According to "insiders" Apple has been having some delays with the touchscreen technology that will be used in the next iPod. It was originally supposed to be released this month or October, but is now said to be past a holiday release date. I think it will be unveiled at MacWorld 2007.
