Recently my 4th generation iPod began to freeze while in the middle of a song. This problem continued for a while until I reset one day and instead of the iPod starting up I got the sad ipod icon. A few times when I reset from the sad iPod screen, the battery icon with a explanation point would appear for a second before it reset. Also I am usually able to charge the iPod and once it is fully charged it seems to work for a while only to freeze and then show the sad iPod icon. Also on occasion I receive a still battery charging icon after the sad iPod icon when it is plugged in. I am wondering is this a hard drive problem or a batter problem? This problem also started to occur shortly after I ripped a CD onto it, could a song from that CD be causing this problem? If it is a hard drive problem is there any way to fix it instead of replacing it?

I recently mentioned that my 4G crashes frequently. A poster suggested running Disk Warrior on it. Ever since I did that, it has not crashed yet. It sounds like you have a moderate drive issue that could be fixed with Disk Warrior.

Thanks alot for the help. I found DiskWarrior on Where to Buy Alsoft Products but it lists it as $80, this seems like alot to me. You don't buy any chance get it cheaper than that?

It's the best Mac utility to have, and as you likely know it's good for any Mac drive. This company has it for $69, but I have never heard of them and don't know about sales tax or shipping to you.

Just thought I would post an update. I ran a defrag using Windows XP's default utility and I haven't it seems to have fixed it (at least for now). I haven't gotten the sad iPod icon in two weeks. Thanks for the defrag suggestion.

Oh, it's PC formatted? Disk Warrior won't help then. Defragmentation won't help.
