Drat...my month-old iPod won't play the new games. Well, that bites.
Well, except for the fact that I don't really want to buy any $5 games for my iPod...it's just the principle of the thing!

the iTunes store says that only the new 5th gen. iPod's will play games...mine is the previous 30Gb, so I guess that's 4th gen?

I think you can play them with the video model from last year. On the iTS, it tells you which models support the games.

They mean the iPod Video that came out towards the end of last year *and* today's model are the only ones that can play games.
I have a white 60gb model I bought last November and I am playing Mahjong on it right now. I also bought Vortex but haven't tried it yet.
And now I have tried Vortex and it's *awesome*

If your iPod plays video and has a 2.5 inch screen and is black or white, it supports playing games.

Does anyone know if the games are protected in the same way music is from the iTunes store?
I am itching to buy bejeweled here from work, but I'll wait and do it from home if I can't transfer the game from my work PC to my powerbook.
PS. It's taking forever to updated my iPod to 1.2 .. the "Updating iPod" dialog box has been there for ages ...

I have downloaded a few of these games, and guys, they are really, really good. I mean, really good.
I sold my PSP a while back because I only ever played Lumines on it, and I think the PSP is compromised for FPS or driving games. Well, I'm glad I did because these iPod games are just as good as puzzle games on the PSP or another handheld, except for the fact that you have a selection of them right there, without having to swap disks or anything. They are much better than the typical crap you'd get on a mobile phone too.
Zuma is the pick of the bunch for me - this is a game that could easily be sold full price on the PSP. Excellent. Well done Apple & Popcap Games.
If your only experience of iPod games is Solitare or Parachute, WOW - you are in for a treat !
Now, if only I could get more battery life out of the iPod.

The new games are pretty good...I only wish they came standard with the new iPods instead of having to pay more to buy them.

Will nanos play the games as well, or just the full-size iPods?
