No, it's for newer products that accept the universal dock adapter, not older docks. But your 4th gen dock may very well still work with a 5th gen iPod (although it might not be a perfect fit).

I found some pre-universal Docks at CompUSA a while back so I bought one. It fits my 60GB, 4th gen iPod (iPod Photo) just fine (when I take off the silicone rubber skin of course). But our "latest version" universal dock also came with an adapter for the 60G 4gen and our son's 20G 4gen. My wife's new NEW Nano came with an adapter for the universal dock so we're covered. I wish I could find more of those pre-universal docks (for $10 or $15 each, I think) so I could put a few in various locations and not have to mess with cables as much, but I'll suffer through if I can't.

I bought a couple of extra docks cheaply when HP was clearing out all of their iPod stuff. It is nice to have extra ones around. I have one on my night table so I charge up if I'm listening before going to bed, and I also have two on my computer desk, since my 3rd gen iPod uses firewire and the 5th gen one uses USB.

just pry off the white plastic cover from the dock and you'll be able to use your old dock with your new 5th gen. works perfectly. it's a true universal dock and you don't need any of the stupid adapters

A working dock is a working dock... Looking like poo is just a side benefit. I figured out that the cover locks into place only after making it so. I haven't gone to the trouble of removing the slightly smaller cover so that I can put the cover for the larger iPod models onto it because it's simple for me to slip the silicone skin off my iPod.
