I plug my 4G iPod in using a Apple USB cable and a third party power block and it is showing a battery with one bar filled in and not flashing or charging up. I tryed it on my computer and the same thing happens using the USB cable. I borrowed 2 different USB cables from my friends and neither worked. However, the iPod does charge up when I plug it into my friends iPod stereo dock thing which also charges. I can't go over there everytime I want to charge up my iPod. And I plug the iPod into the wall for hours with that symbol and it never changes. If I do a reset, it doesn't even show the apple, it turns off the battery symbol for about half a second and then shows it again.

Are you near an Apple Store at all? I'd run it in there and have them look at it. It sounds like the connector on the iPod is broken, and the one on your friend's stereo is different enough to get the power into the unit.
Try charging up at your friends house and then connect it to your mac, does it mount on the desktop/iTunes?

it does. When it has power, it works fine transferring large amounts of songs.

I'd guess that whatever part of the connector manages power has been damged or doesn't reach the pins on the cable, but for some reason reaches the pins on your friends stereo. That's a guess without being familiar with all the workings of the connector.
