got a 4th gen ipod 20GB that is giving me the sad face + exclamation point. the hard drive spins and spins like its going to start up but i get nothing. the battery wont charge either. i"m fairly certain the HD is good. what could be causing this? any ideas? thanks

I've gone through 3 4G iPods...all with the same thing you're describing, the first two were under warranty this last one isn't. I disassembled it hoping it would fix it, but it just made the thing worse...I'm hoping the 5G ones are more reliable because I need an mp3 player.

Try doing this and provide your feedback if you have resolved the issue

In most cases, the sad iPod icon indicates a hardware issue
