AFAIK, the software version 1.0.2 is the most current iPod software for the 2nd gen iPod nano.

iTunes is saying that there is a 1.1 update too. Did Apple release a new update? Links?

Which iPod nano you have? Over AI forum, one 8GB iPod nano user said he/she is able to upgrade to 1.1. I'm not sure since I just received a 4GB red iPod nano first out of China and it's loaded with 1.0.2. iTunes 7.0.1 didn't prompt me for newer iPod software.
It used to easy to figure out the latest version of iPod software on apple KB, but not anymore.

iTunes in Vista told me about 1.3 a few days ago, it tried to update and after half an hour I got bored of waiting. It's still on 1.2 and I haven't seen the update pop back up when i'm in either Vista, XP or on my Mac

Mine updated to 1.1 today when I got tired of iTunes asking me to update it. No error messages or any thing...

v1.1 for the 2G nano came out earlier this week. I tried to find any record on Apple's site but couldn't. It's the second update I've had already for my Nano since I purchased it (4 GB Silver). Never seen that error code before, but I used to get an error everytime I updatde my nano. I think it said something about being in use, I'm not entirely sure. But the upgrade to v1.1 has fixed that for me.

I've got a silver 2GB Nano that's a few weeks old that's giving the 1453 error as well.

Going into ~/Library/iTunes and removing the 1.1 firmware to force it to re-download solved the problem here. My nano is now running 1.1

My situation was similar but I was trying to restore my Windows-based iPod nano (1st gen, 4gb) on my new Macbook Pro so that it would change to the Macintosh format. However, Itunes 7.1 wouldn't let me restore it (It would crash) so I had to download an old iPod updater that would restore it with 1.2.
The old updater successfully formatted my iPod for Macintosh but then iTunes was telling me I needed to update to 1.3. Unfortunately, it would give me the following error everytime I clicked the update button:
An unknown error occurred (1453).
Now the suggestions mentioned in this thread for resolving this error did not help me, but eventually I found that enabling the iPod for disk use fixed everything. I simply clicked the enable for disk use check box, clicked update, and ding - everything is up to date and in the right format. I hope this helps!

Today for me it was what zwerd says... got the error, tried removing the updater from ~/lib as above... did it again... then updated disk usage and voila, I'm at 1.3.1! Thanks!
