Dont do it! =p You'll end up losing a bit of money if you sell it and then buy the new 8gig nano. You'll also lose the additional space that you could be using for data backup. If you dont already do data backup then you should and could use the extra space on the 30gig. It is a hard lesson to learn to not backup your data... If money isnt an issue just keep the 30gig and buy the 8gig. Use the 30 for data and long trips and the nano for whatever your heart desires. Just follow your heart.. Thats what I do.

i have a 60GB iPod video and an 8GB iPod nano.
I stopped lugging aroung my iPod video and docked it in the living room where it acts as a multimedia jukebox. It has a greatest hits music playlist that I listen to when I'm in the living room. It also has children's music playlist for when the kids are around. It also has "background" music featuring acoustic guitars, new age, and Asian instrumentals for guests. I put a bunch of Disney and Baby Einstein videos in it for the kids. No more DVDs for the kids to scratch.
Like peterauch21 said, the iPod video is great for long trips.
Now that I put my iPod video to good use, I've been using my 8GB iPod nano as my personal player.
It's a much better way to utilize your old iPod video.
