I've got the sad iPod face and the HDD is making clicking sounds. I can't force it into disk mode. this one is a replacement for my first iPod that had a HDD fail. it's out of it's 90 day warranty period. are there any options left at this point?

If you were in the UK, the stautory minimum guarantee is one year from the purchase of the first iPod.

If this is longer, do you have any European friends or relatives who could use the Euro warranty for you?

A clicking HDD that won't force into Disk Mode sounds terminal, however.

Swapping out the HDD might be worth it on an iPod this new, however. Good luck.

The Euro guarantee is only valid for items bought within the area covered by the law.

It has nothing to do with Apple's world-wide one-year warranty, btw. If you initially bought the iPod within the last twelve months, the replacement one is still under warranty.

If you're just over the warranty date (and IIRC none of the 5th-gen iPods can be more than four or so weeks older than one year) call Apple Customer Support and ask them nicely if they can do something for you.

Not true. Just got my 60 GB Photo back from UK Applecare repair/replacement and it came from Southern California, dude.

However, it's a moot point if the one year guarantee is universal - I thought the OP was hinting that his iPod only had a 90 day warranty.

Bring it to an Apple store. The iPod comes with a 1 year warranty.
