Im thinking of getting a portable media setup where I can carry most of my recorded material and a couple ripped dvd's and hook it up to a TV whenever Im in a hotel room abroad or at my girlfriends.

The problem is most of my old collection except for the latest ones (which is h264) is all Xvid or Divx. I googled this and most of the solutions were to just convert the files into mp4 .

What I basically wanted to ask was, and I might be totally off here, but can the iPod be made to to play an Xvid or a divx file directly without having to convert it first? - I know the Archos and a couple other media players can. Just wanted to know if I can just somehow dump all my stuff on there without having to worry about codecs or converting each and every video everytime I want to update the little white wonder

iPod's processor isn't powerful enough to decode DiVX.
