I decided to start using my ipod as an external HD today, and everything went fine with it until i unmounted it and tried to turn it off. As far as I can tell, it just doesn't seem to be able to shut down while in disk mode.

Is this true, or am I missing something?

Need more info:

Are you using a Mac or PC?
What version of iTunes? What iPod?

Did the "Do not Disconnect" message go away before you disconnected?

Did you try resetting the iPod?

I dont think in disk mode it will turn off, at that point it is used like an external drive. So unless it runs out of battery or is reset it will stay on
