iTunes 7 auto-updated my first-gen iPod Shuffle resident software the other day . I saw no reason not to do this when it threw up the dialogue box for the upgrade to version 1.1.5 ( or was it 1.5.1 ? ). Seemed harmless enough. But I immediately noticed a noticeable degradation of the sound quality...less bass , less crisp high tones, and a slightly muddier midrange. What I did not hear along wiith this shift was any perceptible increase in " hiss" as reported by other posters. I tested this on three different sets of ear buds and headphones and it the slightly mushier sound output is apparent on all of them .

Maybe I'm too picky about my sound quality , but has anyone else had this experience with their iPod updates?.
