I was trying to find a pair of speakers for my iPod so that I can use it in the car. The car's stereo system has kicked the bucket so using the car speakers and the usual FM transmitter thingy is not an option.

I've seen many battery powered speakers, but I'm not keen on recharging or throwing away batteries all the time. I was hoping there would be a set of speakers that are powered by a car cigarette lighter but I wasn't able to find any. Does anybody here know of such speakers?

I would buy an all in one iPod dock and plug it into the cigarette lighter. May need an DC-AC inverter (~$20)

Error (speaker for dash?)

Getting an adapter and then using normal iPod speakers is probably a good idea. Especially when obviously speakers made to draw power from the cigarette lighter don't exist.

Wouldn't it be much easier to just get a new car stereo ? Maybe even a second hand one it it really needs to be cheap ?

Maybe. But the car's not gonna make it much longer anyway.
