I understand that when I transfer purchased songs from iTunes to my iPod Nano they use very little space, 3 or 4 megs, because they are acc files. Is there a way I can take songs in my library that are from cds(aiff?) and get them to the iPod using less space than the 30-70 megs I'm taking up for each one currently? Thanks

I haven't done it in a long time, so I don't remember the details, but it's very easy in itunes to convert unprotected songs to mp3 format, which greatly reduces their size. I don't know if that will work with AIFF files though. If you have the latest version of iTunes, there's a menu option that says something like "convert to mp3" or something like that. Have you tried that?

I went to iTunes preferences, then "importing." Under "import using" I had it set for aiff encoder. Had been advised that was the best for burning discs. I switched that to acc encoder and added a song from a cd that I already had in the library. As a comparison I transfered both to the iPod. The aiff version used 70 megs, the acc version used 6. guess I'll have two formats of each song......Thanks for heading me in the right direction.
