I need to upgrade both my iPod and my laptop, but can't afford both at the same time. I was wondering whether an iPod video would work with my old iBook which only has USB1?

Also, I know I'd need a charger as it wouldn't charge over USB1. Would I be able to use the wall plug that came with my iPod 3G, even though it's Firewire? It does have a universal iPod dock plug on the end.

Yes it will, I have a 30 GB 5G iPod and it syncs no problem over USB, even to my dad's PC laptop. It will charge over USB and Firewire and it will work with the old iPod charger as I had a 3G one too. Enjoy your new iPod!!

USB 1 WILL charge AND sync (I just got a refurb 30vid), but the speed will make you want to slit your wrists.

I wanted a USB 2.0 Cardbus/PCMCIA adapter for my Pismo but the prices for Mac versions are pretty high. I looked around and ended up taking a chance on a PC/Win card from Tiger Direct.

It's a Sabrent (Majestron) 2 port card for $17 plus S/H - total $24 delivered. OSX 10.3.9 recognizes it immediately, it works like a champ with no added drivers (luv ya Mac) and comes with a power cord that plugs into your existing USB 1.0 port for higher power draw peripherals (the iPod doesn't need this though).

I admit I got lucky with this one and I'm VERY happy about it. Hope this helps.
