i didnt see this posted already, but most every Target in the country should have a number of iPod HiFi's left since they obviously never sold very well in general. They're selling them for about $174 right now which puts it much more on par with products such as the JBL and Bose offerings

Also, mostly unrelated, the JBL Creature systems are $24.99 for stores that have any left.

I was going to post about this myself. The way Target clearances work is that they start out at a fairly low percent off and then the discount gets higher as time goes by. The iPod Hi-Fi was 30% off (around $244) last week. This week it's $174 (50%) off) and I'm hoping that it'll go to around 70%-75% off next week, assuming there are any still around. An iPod Hi-Fi for around $90 is a great deal.

Is that only in the brick-and-mortar stores?

The Target I went to today had 2 iPod Hifis for $174 each. I almost bought them as a gift. But I wanted to make sure that I could return it if the person did not want it. Target said they have a 15% restocking fee even if the item is unopened. Is this true? I ended up not getting them.

I can't believe that. I've never had any problem returning things to Target.

According to Target's return policy, they do indeed charge a 15% restocking fee for "Camcorders, digital cameras, portable DVD players and portable electronics".

Returning gifts is so cold, anyhow. If the person doesn't want a $300 stereo for their iPod, they can eat the restocking fee. It's what they get for having that kind of attitude about gifts.

Strange that they would say that the iPod Hi-Fi is a piece of "portable electronics." True, it can work on batteries, but it's hardly portable.

Good point.

Perhaps the person the OP originally spoke with told him the wrong thing. I'd double-check it with the Customer Service counter.

My sort-of local Best Buy had a half-dozen of HiFI's on clearance for $99 about 2 weeks back. Asked about it and the guy said something about getting rod of them because no one was buying them. I thought of picking one up, but $99 still seems kind of high for a product with what appears to have future.

Damn, $99 would have been a great price. I don't know about the future of the iPod Hifi, but it should be usable as long as iPods have dock connectors, which should be quite a long while.

I returned an unopened 60gb PS3 ($599) and they didn't charge me a restocking fee.

Awesome, they are $440 here in Spain and even when they don't sell a thing we don't get such huge discounts.

Does the iPod hifi sound as good as a bose wave radio?

Yes I know it's not pro level audio, but is it good home stuff?

I went to 2 Targets around here and they have no trace of ever having them. At a local Best Buy, it was on display and selling for $349.

My Target sold the only one they had at $174.99 and from what I hear it hasn't gone any lower than that anywhere. It might not go lower than 50% off.

Does anyone have the part # for this item @ Target? When I call, people have no clue what it is... When I try to describe it, people advise me that they have the power adapters for sale... And the actual Apple part # doesn't do jack to help them find the item. Any insight appreciated. Thanks!

i had the same problem. just tell them it's a big speaker like the bose system for the ipod that's on clearance. all they have to do is go back to the clearance rack at the end of the aisle and look for a big box. i found one store in my area with two and bought them both (one for someone else). $175 is still expensive but it's a somewhat realistic price for these speakers.

Thanks for the tip about asking about the clearance shelf... They had two, so I got two! One is for me... The other is a gift. Either way, placed mine in an armoir to connect to the airport express where my printer is hidden, and the armoir now has a hidden speaker setup that sounds great! The treble seemed off in that it was higher than I anticipated, but behind the armoir doors, it sounds perfect... And MAN does that thing get loud! And by "higher" I mean clearer. The thing sounds great... But I'm a bass man myself when I listen to rock... Will post a better review later, but I am truly impressed considering the size/price at what this thing can do w/sound.

$174 is a good deal for such a device. It received rather good reviews.
