An orange iPod shuffle. Hooray! I'm about to put some music on it.
Seriously the cutest thing Apple has ever produced.
I am, however, disappointed in Apple's packaging. They made such a big deal about using less materials, but the plastic doesn't appear to be recyclable - it's #7. I'm guessing it's acrylic, which can be recycled...but I think you have to take it to special centers that accept a wide range of plastics. I'm no environmentalist, but it would have been nice to see the casing made of cardboard or #1 or #2 plastic.
Ahhh well...I still love it!

As if a 'Mac Enthusiast' would ever throw away the packaging...

Hey - gotta keep it for those eBay resales!
I'm just surprised they didn't use something more environmentally friendly when they did the redesign.

I guess that's one way of looking at it. I still have my original 5GB iPod packaging, Mac OS X Boxes, and other unecessary Apple packaging. It's a thing, I guess.

I'm assuming Apple will change that particular thing in the near future. An article on the main MacNN page talks about Greenpeace meeting with Apple to discuss their environmental practices. I'm betting Apple will probably make some small changes in the materials of their packaging. That's the least they could do, and its not difficult, just a tad more expensive for Apple.

Agreed.
I'm just waiting for Red Chair Software to give me my activation token for Anapod Explorer so I can play with my new toy.
In the meantime, I found a really awesome, tiny application that lets you drag-and-drop songs to your shuffle. It builds the shuffle's database so you don't have to use iTunes.

...of course, it would have been a lot better of a present if my ****ing cat hadn't chewed through the brand new earphones as soon as I turned my back.
I didn't even get to try them out before she ruined them.

That's not as bad as when my puppy chewed through one of a brand new pair of Florsheim dress shoes I had just bought. Never got to wear them except as working around the house shoes. That in addition to the copy of War and Peace he chewed through. I did hide all the electric cords though.

Ohhh that sucks. My cat also chewed through one of my firewire cables for my iPod photo. The little data wires (four total) were too small to repair, but I did manage to repair the two data wires, so I can at least use it to charge.
Pissed me off, though. She's also chewed on the cord to my blue rotary princess line phone - which was made back before phone cords were replaceable in home phones.
I do still have two pairs of old-style iPod earphones, and to be honest, I didn't really notice any difference between the new ones and the old ones - either in comfort or sound quality. They seemed just about identical. It's not as bad as if she'd chewed on the shuffle itself and made little cat-teeth marks all over the white buttons...

Out of this Apple will come out with the Biopod™. A biodegradable iPod that turns into topsoil after 3 years. People are constantly upgrading their iPod anyway. The only drawback? It will only be available in mucky Zune brown.
