Mods - sorry if you disagree with the placement of this question - I wasn't 100% sure which forumn it belongs in...

With my Apple TV on order, I've been ripping lots of my TV Shows that I own on DVD. I want to be able to access all of my shows on demand via my Apple TV. The file sizes are adding up so I'll soon be purchasing an external Hard Drive. My question is will it be better to connect the drive to my 24 inch iMac or to my Airport Extreme. The Apple TV will need to access the data so I was thinking it may be better to go with a USB drive connected to the base station. On the other hand, I can connect a FW800 drive to my iMAC. Thoughts on which will be faster to connect/stream to the Apple TV?

(I'm assuming that I can't just connect an external drive to my Apple TV right?)

i'd imagine it would be more efficient to connect it to the AE base station. Even if you can get a FW800 drive on your iMac, you're only going to get as much bandwidth out of it as the iMac can send over the network, and if it's over wireless your connection would be a bottleneck for that fast FW800 drive.

Has this question ever been answered? I have a Time Capsule on order, and was wondering if I could use it to feed an Apple TV, or connect a drive directly to the ATV for extra storage?
