I have a 30gb 5G ipod formated for mac. When hooking up to pc's in itunes, I get the message that cannot read and do I want to format for the pc. My question is, is there some software utility that regardless of platform, can read or transfer files without itunes (disk mode I guess)? tnks

You could erase (Restore) your iPod using iTunes in Windows, then turn on "Manually manage music"

This will let you manually copy music from either your Windows machine or Mac onto the iPod.

However, the copying speed will be slightly slower from the Mac due to the iPod's disk format now being FAT32 (a windows disk format).

You will also lose the automatic sync capability and will have to "eject" the iPod every time you want to unplug it from the computer - other than these things, it's one possibility

Hope this helps

There is something. If you have mac formatted iPod, you can install MacDrive on a windows computer. It won't let you use iTunes, but it'll let you use the iPod on the windows side as a flash drive, while on the mac if your iPod has disk use enabled, you can then use it like a flash drive on both systems.
