One of the requirements says that a widescreen TV is required, but then it also has component outputs, which will certainly plug into an SDTV (such as mine.) So will it work on an SDTV with component inputs?

Also, would it be faster (i.e., have better performance) with a wired network as opposed to wireless?

What SDTV do you have with component? Are you confusing component and composite?

Yes, wired will probably be faster than wireless.

You can find many SDTVs out there with components inputs. Like my 26" Sony Wega. Almost every standard def DVD players also have component outputs. Component is just the ultimate analog way to connect video, it's not exclusive to HDTV. Unless AppleTV only outputs a 1280x720 video signal through the component output.

It outputs 720p and 480p but not 480i, which is what standard-def sets use. I imagine hooking it up to a TV that only displays 480i will result in no picture.

Yeah. You need at least an EDTV (480p) to use Apple TV. Sucks.

Alot of 4:3 tv's suport progressive scan 480p. So it should work if yours does, but it probably will not fill the screen. It will be like watching a widescreen dvd.

My confusion with what's being stated (I'm at work with my Apple TV and won't be able to see what the deal is until late):

On the Apple TV - Tech Specs web page it states:
  • Mac or PC
  • iTunes 7.1
  • Mac: Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later

On the Apple TV retail box it states:
  • Requires Mac or PC
  • iTunes 7.1 or later
  • Mac: Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later

But inside the Owner Manual (insude the retail box) it states:
  • A Macintosh computer with: 1GHz Power PC G4 or G5, or an Intel processor
  • iTunes 7.1 or later
  • Mac: Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later

That's garbage! I was planning on using this with my Power PC G3 (with iTunes 7.1.1 and Mac OSX v10.3.9)! Why is that restriction only in the Owners Manual!

Does anyone know if this will not work with my home setup? Thanks,
BD
