this is f'ing lame at this point. i am trying to get the appletv to work as i need it, but i am ready to finally say screw it. in trying to sync my photos and stream my music (only way to get this stupid excuse for a little hdd to work in my favor), so i have to disconnect and reconnect the itunes link between my mac and the appletv. whenever i do that itunes won't rescan or whatever it needs to do in order to find my appletv. unless i reboot MY MAC it just won't find it. did apple outsource this lame thing to MS or am i missing something?!?! shouldn't it find the thing when i try to resync using the appletv?
god apple, what the hell were you thinking? come late to the party and offer up a half baked wannabe product. my el gato eyehome works better than this thing, albeit not nearly as attractive.

Seems to work fine on our demo unit. Disconnected/reconnected/re-synced several times over the experimentation phase of the first day.
Oddly, we couldn't get it working via Ethernet, though. :

i am at a total loss. so i am resyncing so that it only syncs my photos. syncing starts and gets through one of about 6 folders of photos based on what i selected in the appletv setting (within itunes). after syncing on of the folder the appletv disappears from within itunes and stops syncing altogether. so now i have only one folder on my atv and none of the other content i wanted. itunes says it is connected to it (in preferences) but i can't view it or adjust any of the sync settings.
any ideas?

oh yea, atv says the wireless connection is full strength so it shouldn't be anything network related.

i have the same problem when i don't use the apple tv for a day or so . . . i have to type in the friggin password all over again, which is a big pain in the arse with the remote . . . i hope they fix that with the next software update along with VOLUME CONTROL!

I bought my AppleTV yesterday after playing with one at the Apple Store. The volume control worked just fine there. The one I set up at home doesn't do anything when I press plus or minus volume however the light on the front flashes telling me it does see the signal from the remote. Then I realized the remote is for Apple Devices only, the one at the Apple Store was controlling the volume of the iMac that it was attached too. There is no volume control on the AppleTV itself

after little response here, i went over to apple's site for atv support ( Apple - Support - Apple TV) and discovered that quite a few people are encountering this issue where their atv periodically just disappears from itunes. most are not finding any solution from apple's documentation on what to do, which tries to address this. seems like it is a v1 type of issue that needs some solution in the future. while i have mine synced now (finally!!!) it stills periodically just disappears from itunes until i quit and restart it or reboot the machine. very annoying.

Hey guys I've had this problem as well.
It will start to sync then disappear from Itunes. It's really frustrating because it's just started to do it
