Well, i've been searching the internet about this for like, two hours, and i can't figure it out, so i came here.

I have a 30GB ipod video that was given to me because it doesn't work.
they gave me no information on why it doesn't work, just doesn't.

i went and bought a cord for it to plug it in to my computer to charge it because the battery was completely dead, and its been charging for a little over an hour now, and sometimes during the charge, it displays the apple and the backlight is on, and sometimes it displays the charging icon, and no backlight..

i unplugged it to see if i could see a problem with it when it has its charge, and from power off, it :

Starts up, shows the apple logo, backlight on, stays for a bit....
then it clicks, and the screen turns off and just has a bunch of lines on it that slowly fade away,

i've tried holding menu and select to "reset" it and it just does the same thing...

also, since the battery was all the way dead when i got it, i tried that whole battery dead reset too.

obviously the LCD works because i can see the apple sign perfect when backlit.

when its plugged in i can't seem to do anything so, i dunno.

i don't have the software installed on my computer because, i figure if the ipod won't turn on then i don't really need to trouble myself with it.

any ideas?

EDIT: I just turned it on and actually listened to the unit itself, and i can hear the hard drive seeking, and then pulling back kind of. like, click click click errr.. type thing. so maybe its a bad hard drive?

Install iTunes. You may be able to do a Restore.

Okay well,

i left my ipod unplugged from 4am till 10am while i slept, and i woke up and it had no charge... and it wasn't on. so i'm pretty sure the battery needs to be replaced... but i'm having other problems also.

i downloaded and installed itunes, and it takes a while for it to recognize my ipod but when it does, it says its corrupted, so i clicked the restore button and went through that process, and when it was done the first time through it didn't seem to work, i did it once again and now i can see the ipod screen that shows "music video storage" etc, and i can plug it in and i get the more graphical do not disconnect screen....

but yet, itunes still tells me i need to restore it....

i've done a couple things like stopped the service and then plugged it in and started it and opened itunes, and also uninstalling itunes and reinstalling it... neither worked.

i'm hoping something is software related so that i don't have to end up replacing the battery AND the hard drive.

Hey! My best friend experienced these same problems about a month ago. She ended up buying a new battery and it solved everything. I'll talk to her and get the site address for you.

Hmm.... sounds like a commercial if I ever saw one.

Hi, I've had problems with pain in my back for years. That is, until I found out about Advil. They even have this great little website where you can talk with people online and get free answers. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for too.

Here is the page for Advil.

Best wishes
