I need to format my ipod using windows, Fat32.

if i right click on it in my computer, it freezes my computer, if i click on it and go to file and format, it seems to work, but never gives me one green bar on the formatting process, if i go to the command prompt from windows and type in Format H: /FS Fat32 and it starts and stays at 0%.

i've tried both when the ipod was fully booted, and in disk mode... and neither had any progress.

i've googled this for quite some time and couldn't find an effective way... does anyone here know how?

You didn't mention trying iTunes restore.

Could be that your iPod hard drive is broken.

If not, restore using iTunes in Windows... it's automatically formatted to Fat32.

It sounds like your drive is dead. My 60GB Photo shipped with a bad drive, and trying to do anything with it froze My Computer (aka explorer.exe).

If you can't do an iTunes restore and it's still under warranty, take it to the Apple Store.
For all the trash I talk, I sure own a lot of Macs...

You never want to format your iPod's hard disk using anything but iTunes, since it can screw up the iPod's disk format, making it impossible to use it as a music player (at least until you reformat it). But anyway, it does sound like there may be a problem with the disk if it stalls like that.

well i've been working on this ipod for 3 days. it was a friends and he plugged it in to his car charger and it fried the battery or something..

at first it wouldn't turn on, and then i slowly got it working somehow.

Now, i can put music on it, and movies, but like, i put an episode of family guy on it, and in the middle of the episode, the movie just, froze... and the headphones started making funny sounds.

and he doesn't have the box or anything for it so there's no warranty. =[.
