I have never used an ipod before. I just got a new nano from apple. I plugged it up to the usb port, like it said to. nothing happened. I have itunes 7.2 installed. the ipod has the charging icon, and I can go through the ipod, the various different menus and stuff. even when I open iTunes, it doesn't recognize the ipod! what do I do?

Hmmm... I've not used iPods on Windows a lot, but if all of your Windows updates are current, this leads me to think that you might have a duff iPod - do you have access to another machine you can try it on? Where did you buy - can you easily get it to an Apple store, or get it exchanged?
You might try posting on a windows forum, on on the Apple website where they have a forum specifically for iPod Nano issues on Windows. Sorry.

You can't keep us guessing!!! What was the problem and the fix?

I've found the Apple Care phone folks to be top notch when dealing with iPods, and I'm glad you did too.

oh goodness, I was on the phone for about 30 minutes, the person talked me through stuff to do on the computer that I never have done before, digging deep down into it! If I remember right, something like right clicking on "my computer" then "manage" then all sorts of other stuff. also getting the iPod into disk mode, by holding the center and menu key, then as soon as the apple logo appears(you have to be really fast, it took me a few trys) switching to holding the center and play/pause keys.
I guess the main problem was that my comp was't recognizing it, something to do with having to many things in usb ports, for example I have the mouse plugged up via usb, it came with an adapter, the apple person asked me to use that, so that way the mouse is plugged in the mouse plug, not a usb port. so I did that, and then the computer recognized the ipod, but itunes wasn't opening, it was a windows installer thing. so she had me do use that, which had the option of letting the comp look on its own for software to install, or manually type in where you want it to look. The apple person had me type something in, I can’t remember what, and then it worked! iTunes opened up! And now whenever I pug the iPod in, iTunes automatically starts up! I’m happy that its working great! Now I’m saving up to buy a macbook, hoping they will get a better graphics card other than the outdated gma 950, and add the LED screen, before I go to college in August…..
