Do I detect some sarcasm in that comment?

Actually, this sounds plausible. Go to the store(or get it online), get the phone. Go home. plug the iPhone into the Mac/PC. Start iTunes and activate. This would explain the need for an iTunes account. Put your credit card info on your iTMS account and the phone could be billed and paid for via the iTMS.

What needs to be 'Activated' on the phone? What if some users don't want to use iTunes or give Apple their Credit Card #? Lets say some don't even have a computer? You shouldn't be required to do anything except buy the phone and use it. forcing someone to use iTunes and a credit card. Sounds like what Microsoft was doing by saying hey you have to use IE on our computers and too bad if you don't like it.

I find the iTunes required activation untrue but you never know.

I doubt anyone that technophobic, paranoid or poor would be in the market for a $500+ mobile phone.

Don't want to use iTunes? Great... Go buy a Nokia. You can probably even get one free when you sign a new contract.

Don't want to give Apple your credit card? Um, okay... But is there any company still trading by barter? Privacy wonks need to get over themselves.

Despite the hype, the iPhone is not water, air or toothpaste. You don't HAVE to have one. If the sign-up policies offend, by all means just don't buy one.

If you don't have a computer, chances are you won't be getting (or even need) an iPhone.

Why not? It can be used as a main computer. You can type in everything manually and never synch the iPhone with a computer ever. Im just saying this can be a good selling point also.

All very true. But the first time the iPhone needs to be reset, it would suck to have to re-enter all that data just because you neglected to sync with a computer.

I would never ever want to re-enter a bunch of data. Ugh. Not worth the risk.
