Has anyone been able to dig up specifics about accessing wifi networks? Will it work just like OSX? Will it only access public hotspots? Can we log in securely to closed networks? Just curious...
Internet over WiFi: Testing conducted by Apple in May and June 2007 using preproduction iPhones and software. Internet over WiFi testing conducted using a closed network and dedicated web and mail server, simulating browsing to 20 popular URLs and checking mail once an hour. All settings were default except: Call Forwarding was turned on; the WiFi feature Ask to Join Networks and Auto-Brightness were turned off; WPA2 encryption was enabled.
Emphasis mine.
So not only can you join closed networks, but you'll even be able to use the best encryption possible too.
Sweet. And since it uses the "real internet" theres no reason I shouldnt be able to use a web-page authenticated wireless network also (a la pay-as-you go networks) I woiuld think....
