Ok, here's the situation. Me and my dad are on verizon, and we are both switching this weekend to AT&T, I am getting the iPhone and he is getting a new blackberry. Question is, since we are both new customers, how do we go about getting a shared plan?

If I sign up through iTunes like the video does, I can click family plan, and migrate my number over. On the Apple website, it says additional iPhone lines are $29.99. Is that only for an iPhone line, or can he just share the minutes on the same account?

My idea is that on friday, I get the phone, and sync it through iTunes and get the family plan we need. Would it be smart for him to just go in the next day and get the blackberry and get added to the plan that way? I am confused on the right way to go about this, and I'm sure AT&T is gonna be too busy to answer these questions on Friday.

thanks.

This is my situation, too. I'm disappointed that seemingly every other contingency has been covered, but not this one. My wife will get a regular cellphone, I'm getting the iPhone. We're coming from Sprint. Guess I need to go to an AT&T store and maybe establish service before 4 p.m. Friday, then just buy the iPhone and add it Friday night.

I had an idea and was wondering if this would work:

The non-iPhone buyer could go in, and open an account with their singular phone, but still get a family plan with X amount of minutes. Then when I get the iPhone, I could click "add an existing line to my current account" in the iTunes activation.

Does this seem like it could work?

Or would it be smarter to get the phone on Friday, activate it by itself, and then the following week go up to the store and add a line to that account?
