...Charleston, SC.

Was just out and happened to drive by an AT&T store. The parking lot and entrances to the building's stores are on the rear side of the building, but I noticed a police car stationed at the entrance to the parking area. Upon return I decided to swing into the lot to see if here in little ol' Charleston there was really an officer stationed for this event.

Sure enough, as I entered the lot, there was a line forming (4-5 deep at this point, 9:30 a.m.), an officer stood at the entrance, and stanchions were placed along the sidewalk to define the waiting area.

I have to say I was surprised, but I don't know why. Clearly, this is going to be a very successful launch.

Any other reports out there?

...Portland, OR

Went by the downtown Apple Store this morning (before the store opened) and saw roughly 15 people in line already. I'm convincing my boss to let me take the rest of the day off. I really don't want to stand in line that long, but I gotta do what I gotta do!

I just arrived at the Apple Store in the Santa Rosa Plaza. It's about 20 deep as of 9:50am. I didn't think there would be this many people waiting in line so early.... in Santa Rosa!

Slick shoes?!! Are you crazy?!!

Glad I decided to try my luck at local AT&T stores and not Tyson's Corner. Damn. I have an AT&T store 2 miles from my office. I'll probably leave work at 4:00 and go wait over there...

Live at Ridgedale Mall, MN. I'm #27 in line right now. Of course that changes as more and more people let their friends into the line also. I'll be #50 by the time 6:00 PM rolls around.

Word from inside the Apple store from one employee is that they have 100 iPhones on hand. Not sure how accurate that number is but thought I would share.

More later on. I got in line at 11:30 AM to give you a reference.

Yeah, I don't know what to think about that number either. My real question is this. What do you do if you get into the store and they are out of the 8GB model. Do you by the 4GB? Not sure what to do on that one...

Yeah why not, chances are you could sell it on for a profit anyway if you felt restricted by the size limit?

That is what I was thinking also. I currently still have my 1G iPod from years ago that works like a champ. So I have survived all of these years with one 5GB, so it would not be a huge step down for me.

Number 150 at the Atlanta Lenox store. The guy in front of me works at the store. He's buying 2 and he's not worried about them running out.

Reporting from albany - crossgates mall.

Around 40 peeps in line as of 2:30. Apple employees, of course, won't give any info but I think I'm good.
Up from brooklyn to see rush tomorrow- glad I chose here instead of manhattan, that's for sure.

Update from Ridgedale. Doors are closed now and they have hung a black "tarp" over all of the Windows so no one can see what is happening inside. Wonder what they are doing in there???

Line is about 55 people right now. Not huge by any means.

ATL Lenox has about 200 in line now at 3:30. Black tarps up. Pizza just came for the employees.

Nothing too exciting here. Lots of people sleeping in lawn chairs.

The number 2 guy got here at 5:00 AM, he's trying to get people to pay $1500 for his spot. Maybe on 5th Ave. Not here.

$1500 + price of the phone. No thanks. Sounds like a good turn out. Rumor on the street is first 50 people get a special gift? Boy, I hope I get one...

Hey roller, I'm in Chucktown (well, on Kiawah right now getting ready to head home from work). Which store were you at ? As far as I can tell, there should only be 3 stores out of the whole mess of Cingular stores here that should even be carrying them ... were you in W.A. Mt. P, or North Chuck ? ... or are they selling them somewhere else too ?

I'm fairly certain my little cingular store in little ole Geneva, Illinois (35, 40 miles west of Chicago) is selling them. I think I read that in today's paper.

I want an iphone....

Actually I think Apple stores were getting many more then AT&T stores so you should be fine. Lines at my AT&T sore were not as long as I expacted. Having fun now with that new toy.

HAHA, I can just imagine that. Sheesh!

Went to the Raleigh Crabtree store last night around 8pm and could have bought one immediately. Sure, the new iPhone "bar" was packed with curious observers, but you sure didn't have to stand in line to buy. Makes me pity you folks who waited so long. However, I can't say I blame you. Had I been in a financial position to purchase yesterday, I would have been right there with you.
