Here is a picture quality comparison between the iPhone, Nokia N95, and a Canon S400 for reference. The N95 takes better pictures, unsurprising since it has an autofocus lens, larger sensor, better optics, etc. However the iPhone appears to have better color reproduction, and is faster at writing images. Neither one will be replacing a dedicated digital camera any time soon though.

Well, of course the Nokia N95 take better pictures, it got a 5 megapixel w/ Carl Zeiss optics.

As a corollary, of course the iPhone writes the images faster, they're only 2MPixels vs. 5MPixel.

I've been pretty impressed with the camera on the iPhone (samples that I took are here if anyone missed my blog about the iPhone). It's not a digital camera replacement, but as a supplement to a normal digital camera I think it works very well. I've generally turned up my nose at cell phone cameras (my early model RAZR's camera was atrocious), but it's actually pretty good, at least in sufficient light. I like having a halfway decent camera with me at all times.

Comparing the N95 to an iPhone for camera quality is just silly (and that's putting it kindly).

That's like saying a '72 Ford pickup is "better" than a new BMW because the BMW can't haul lumber.

Different products for different missions.

Dumb thread.
