I am having an issue with the iPhone mail in conjunction with my Apple Mail application. When my desktop and iPhone are both trying to connect to the mail server via a POP account the server locks up. If I turn off my iPhone the mail works fine on my desktop. If I change my iPhone to an IMAP account the server only freezes up 30% of the time.
I contacted my provider and they told me:
"Here is what I discovered when trying to access your mail account while you where using your iphone.

-ERR Can't get lock. Mailbox in use
Connection closed by foreign host.

this is showing that the iphone is maintaining a mailbox lock on your mailbox for as long as your have it on."

Any ideas on how to get around this problem????? THANKS!

Since this doesn't seem to happen on other mail servers, could it be your provider needs to adjust something on their end?

Not as they can figure out. I spent an hour on the phone with them going over everything and resetting the service. I've tried the alternative ports, nothing. There only input was the iPhone was locking up the system so that my other machines got booted offline when they tried to check my mail.

I hate to use an IMAP account on my desktop, so I've kept that as a POP account.

I made my iPhone a IMAP account.

What fails when using the same account on both machines: 20% of the time my desktop will give a password error and go offline; 20% of the time my iphone will give me a password error when SENDING mail only and stick that message in the outgoing box (no problem receiving).

This sounds to me to be access issue that probably coincides with both machines accessing the mail server at the same time. With one problem. If I power down my phone my desktop email will work perfectly 100% of the time. However, if I quit the mail application on my desktop my phone still only works 80% of the time. Doesn't make sense.
