http://code.google.com/p/telekinesis/

I've been trying to get this working for the past hour with no success. I've started the server and I'm able to access it from my own computer (https://localhost:5010/), but I can't access my computer using my IP address (which I'm getting from whatismyip.com). Is there something special I need to do? Port forwarding or something? I'm using an apple airport extreme.

I am at work and have not tried the software, but reading what you said, I am going to guess that you will need to setup port forwarding on your Airport Extreme.

Find out what ports the telekinesis software uses and then in Airport Utility set those outside ports to your inside ports and to your Mac's local IP.

I entered 5010 into the public port and updated my router and still nothing. I'm unsure of what would go into Private Address (10.0.1.?) or the private port. You can tell I'm not a networking pro. ; )

I can get it to work on my own network. I haven't tried from outside. I just used the IP address listed under the networking preference pane and opened port 5010 under TCP for the firewall settings. Unfortunately it doesn't play right with multiple monitors. It shows you what's on your main monitor, but if you try to click anything the clicks don't line up right.

Gah! That was it. I was using my computers IP address and not the one from the "Built In Ethernet" pane.

The clicking does seem a little difficult. I'm also using multiple monitors. About the only thing I'm able to do is close windows and move apps on top of eachother. Is it just me or are you not able to zoom in on the desktop (screen)? It's almost impossible to accurately pinpoint my clicks using the desktop (could be due to the high resolution size)

Edit: I must have just gotten lucky when I closed an application. I know what you mean now by the clicks being very inaccurate (due to multi monitors).

I just tested it on my sisters computer (in another state). We got it setup in about 3-5 minutes and I was already browsing through her computer and taking pictures of her apartment. ; )

The resolution is definitely a big factor in how easy it will be to control the computer from the "screen" option. It's nearly impossible to use with my 30", but my sister's 20" made control pretty painless. I would LOVE to see some kind of zoom functionality with this app.

I tried it. The desktop (screen) is a lot more responsive (refreshes at least twice as fast as iPhone Remote) and has a nice and simple option to switch between monitors, but there's no zooming option whatsoever that I saw making the desktop pretty useless to control the computer. I had a much easier time using iPhone Remote in this regard. There, it at least zoomed to the max resolution of the monitor (which made controlling my 17" not too bad. This just sets the desktop size to use about 2/3's of the iphone screen...whether it's a 17" monitor or 30" monitor, the size seems to be the same (making clicking around on the desktop nearly impossible).

Has anyone else tried this?

It works fine if you use the IP address of your Mac. eg: 192.168.1.105:5010
