Does anyone know if its possible to make it so that at least half of the email is downloaded onto the phone? Reading my email when im bored on the subway... or when I dont have service is impossible to do if a data connection is needed.

Any ideas? Maybe im just not doing something right..

Definitely.

As a former blackberry user, email (if it isnt too long or too big in size) can be completely viewed while the wireless is off or while you arent in the service area (in a tunnel, basement, etc). On the iPhone on the other hand, to read the email, you need to be connected to the ATT network and wait for the email to load (or download). Is it possible... that when the email is pushed to the device for the email to be almost... downloaded automatically so that having enough signal strength has nothing to do with viewing the email?

I spend a lot of time on the subway in nyc, for example, where there is no service. I noticed today... that because of that, I was unable to browse through any email. This is unfortunate.

icruise - Right now when mail arrives to the iPhone only the header and first line or two are downloaded. The full message isn't downloaded until you click on the email itself to view.

Don't think you can change that behavior, though.

All glory to the hypnotoad.

I believe under settings widget for email you can configure it to download up to the first 5 lines. Not exactly what you are looking for, but more than twice as good as you currently have it set.

That's definitely a feature option that should be available. You should make the request directly to Apple through their iphone feedback page.

(Wow the server is slow today...)

Thanks for the clarification jokell82 and dpicardi, I tried out the five line preview and it works great. however, it's more of a tease than anything else... thanks for the help. I'll definitely submit something to apple.
