So the visual voicemail on the iphone is awesome, i love it even though I signed up for youmail a few months ago basically so i could get the same thing for my razr (well sort of the same thing). which got me thinkin: why doesnt att buy that company so everyone has a decent voicemail system?

AT&T and Apple didn't give you Visual Voicemail because they want everyone to have "a decent voicemail system," they made it an iPhone feature as a way of differentiating their high-end product from the mundane. They have no interest in making it available to people with the RAZRs they got for $49 when they signed their contracts.

Hopefully visual voicemail on ATT will force other carriers to implement the same thing -- although they'd probably do it for an extra fee per month. Vampires.

Actually, I think AT&T might be planning on rolling out Visual Voicemail for all of their other phones eventually, but they'll probably charge for it.

It works out because the phone downloads the voice mail. Those other phones wouldn't have enough storage.

true, but thats why i say att should buy this Youmail company, their system for personalized visual voicemail is sic, and I'm pretty sure most service subscribers would pay an extra few bucks a month for personalized vm and other cool stuff...
