I would like to make a calendar and/or photo book in iPhoto using a lot of pictures that I have taken on my iPhone.

In iPhoto, when I drag and drop pictures onto the desired spot, it has the little yellow icon on the top right of the photo that says "This photo may print at too low of a quality"

I remember a few years ago (the last time I made a photo book), a few scanned photos had the same message on it, but I went ahead and did it anyways and the quality was not bad. Is there anything to worry about with these pictures? If they took up a full page in a photobook/calendar, would it look bad? I'm trying to make a gift for my girlfriend so I would really like the overall outcome to look very nice.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

...Anybody have any advice?

I know I'm kinda doing this as a last minute thing, but I need the book in my hands in about a week (we just got back from the vacation yesterday with all the pictures and her birthday is in a week), so I'm trying to do this as quick as I can...

Thanks

Well, the resolution of the iPhone camera is limited - and the message is simply confirming that. You won't get crystal clear photos when printed to any reasonable size, so as long as you know that ahead of time, you can go ahead and get your photo book printed.

Whether or not the photos are of sufficient quality when printed is up to whoever is looking at it I guess. I think the only real way to know if the photos will be good enough for you is to go ahead and order one. Personally, I would imagine that in most cases they will print well enough. Not as good as a decent digital camera of course, but probably good enough.

You could just try printing one of the photos at the approximate size it will be when the album is printed - that should give you an idea of how pixelated the final result will be.

Maybe it is just me but I would not trust my cell phone camera with trip pictures especially if planning to print them. Even though iPhone camera makes decent shots at 2 megapixels (good for screen viewing and iPhoto library) I think you need 3-5 megapixels for decent quality printed 4x6 picture and more for 8 1/2 x 11. I just came back from Caribbean trip and had iPhone, 8.1 megapixel SONY digital and another SONY digital video camera (necessary if you want to create a DVD).

You could try printing your pictures if you have a photo quality printer on a good photo paper. They may come out OK but if you are trying to stretch them to a page size you may have problems.

Remember, it's a gift. You have that on your side. Unless your girl is some kind of photo snob, chances are she'll be looking at the CONTENT more than the presentation.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking/hoping. I'm gonna go ahead and do it and hope for the best, and I'm sure as long as the pictures don't look horrendous she'll love it.

Thanks again everyone, I'll let you know how the photos turn out incase anyone else is in a similar situation.

Wow. Got the calendar today.

Photo quality was excellent! It was so much better than I expected it was going to be, I can only imagine what these would look like from a nice digital camera (well I guess I should know next week when the photo book comes in...calendar was only iPhone photos though).

She loved it, by the way!
