Quick quote if you are unable to go to the website:

"'The sky is the limit' for iPhone software," analyst Mike Abramsky told clients in a research note Tuesday. "An iPhone update patch is expected shortly."

Yeah, and the Beatles catalog will be on iTunes soon as well. At this point, I'll believe it when I see it.

Wouldn't updating the iPod break all the work done by hackers to open up certain parts of the iPhone?

Not really a problem if Apple provide the same level of functionality (Ie Ringtones, Chat) etc

I was under the notion that Apple wanted to keep the phone locked down as long as possible, and will maybe even do updates to re-lock the phone I bet.
I hope they add some of the "rumored" features that are on the internet, but all we can do is wait.

Thread title should be "iPhone Patch coming soon." Of course, there's always gonna be a patch for the published vulnerabilities, especially with the Black Hat con coming up.

A hardware update is much, much longer in coming, as in "sometime next year, perhaps, maybe, but don't count all the rumors..."

About ringtones: there's loads of money to be made in ringtones, for those that control and sell ringtones. So let's assume that ATT and Apple couldn't agree on how to partition that revenue source. ATT has the network, Apple has music, neither is particularly interested in letting you do your own ringtones without them getting some revenue, so it's a deadlock.

Meantime, with a little bit of googling, you'll find a hack to enable your own ringtones on the iPhone.
