Somehow my .Mac address book got corrupted and I accidentally propagated it to both of my computers so it deleted all of my contacts, except four of them (I just pressed yes out of habit when it told me it was about to delete more than 5% of my contacts). I still have all of my contacts on my iPhone. Is it possible to replace my computer's contacts with those on my iPhone or will it delete everything from my iPhone as well the next time I sync ?
thanks,
kman

Well, whenever I make changes on my iPhone, it changes address book, so I guess yeah, you can overwrite your computer contacts with your iPhone contacts.

But how do I insure that the changes to my computer which happened more recently than any changes on my iPhone won't overwrite my iPhone?
On .mac you have a choice to overwrite .mac or the computer with the other data. There is a similar option with a Palm device. I'm just not sure if that is an option for this with iPhone syncing.

The problem is that synchronising includes DELETION of contacts, so unless you can specify to use the external device as a source, syncing will delete all contacts off the iPhone.
I wonder if it's possible to remove the iPhone from iTunes without erasing it, and then re-adding it?
I don't think iTunes works like iSync, so I have no idea.

You might be able to "touch" your iPhone's contacts by adding some nonsense data to your contacts, giving them a more recent modification date. The sync might bring you into conflict resolution mode at that point, but I'm not sure.
I do know that if you sync contacts to another mac, it'll ask you if you want to merge the contacts or not. So, if you could somehow get the mac to forget you've already synced the iPhone with it, that option may work.

Well, I can't say I know since I don't use Address Book and iCal (so I am not not knowledgeable about syncing, I only used Address Book to get my contacts into my phone and iCal to get my calendar into my iPhone, both off of my old cellphone. XDXDXD).

Does iTunes/iPhone syncing conform to the iSync preferences? Can I set it to 'Reset Sync History'?
