I bought a new iPhone for my wife and I've read a lot of information about it on this forum and others, but I still have a problem.
I got the "<deleted> DVD to iPhone Converter" to rip DVDs so that I can put it on the iPhone.(My wife and I are not good at computer software). It works fine but one thing is a little annoying. Someone told me that H.264 encoding is better than mp4 encoding. But it seems to take years to rip?! It only takes an hour to encode at mp4 format?!
Why?
Can anyone help ?
Thanks

"Better" doesn't necessarily mean "faster to rip." It could mean "better video quality" or "smaller file size." I'm not well-versed in either format to know what is better and why.

What computer are you using to do the ripping? If it's an older Mac, it's going to take longer; the ripping/re-encoding process is CPU intensive (I run my 1.83 GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook up to 90% on each core if I remember right when copying DVDs to the iPhone) and will take longer on slower machines.

BTW, you might try using HandBrake and see if it's any faster. Just make sure you set the resolution and audio encoding properly. For audio in particular, I set it to stereo; no point in keeping 5.1 or any fancy surround sound audio when the best the iPhone does is 2-channel stereo.

<Deleted> is $29 Windows-only software.

He's not using a Mac.

Assuming this is not once again some spamming ploy - h.264 is higher-quality than .mp4 at equal file sizes.

That almost *necessarily* means that it's more difficult to encode, which of course takes longer.

I have a bit of trouble focussing as well.

Will I laugh at you? No, but I will ban you for being on the same IP address as several other people who were banned for posting spam about iPhone/iPod converters.
