So my iPhone has been great, great battery, no problems of any kind until today... a large section of the touch screen is dead, along the bottom area where the bottom row is.
I called support and they walked through the usual.. said it's a hardware problem and to bring it in to an Apple store for exchange. I have an appointment in a few hours, but I am wondering if they really will exchange it or if it needs to go in for repair? I've had this just 3 weeks and this sucks, the numerous cases suggest a big problem and my trust in the iPhone just dropped.. a lot.
Anyone have a similar experience?

It is a known problem and they will get you all fixed up. Do not let this deter you from the experience you are already having, which seems to be a positive one.

Well took it in, they will repair it and send it back in 5-10 day or some such. They will "rent" you another iPhone for $30 but wouldn't budge on that fee at all... So I said no thanks and just put the SIM in my backup phone. now I wait.. it sure stinks not having that wonderful internet & email access with me at all times. I hope it is closer to 5 days because I hate to think it could be 10 business days

some stores have been very lenient with replacing phones. I had a small problem with the volume button and they replaced it on the spot. Good luck getting your back quickly.

I had the dead screen issue except closer to the top. I was kind of nervous since I'm going on a trip in a couple weeks and would have wigged out to not have the iPhone so I decided before it got any worse to head to the Apple store yesterday. I brought the complete box with accessories just in case, but I figured I'd have to ship it out and use my backup. Showed the genius and he said it was supposed to go to the depot, but he let it go and swapped it out with an iPhone out of the box. I'd had mine since launch day so I was definitely relieved that I got one then and there.
Seems to depend on the store you go to but it seems as tho Apple knows about the issue, and hopefully they're staying on point with resolving it.

Wow thats good luck! mine is on its way back via FedEx and will be here tomorrow. So that is pretty darn good turnaround time. Ill let you know when & how it arrives.
My Apple Store (Palm Beach Gardens, FL) would NOT budge, one guy is really cool but I got the a-hole I guess.

They sent me a brand new one in a slick box, just like the iPhone box but only and inch deep, pretty nice, I also got the paperclip tool haha. I hope this one has a nice strong battery like my last
