I've got a 30GB fourth generation non-photo iPod that's about 2yrs 2mo old. The Apple Care just ran out, and I think it died just in time to be unfixable for free. iTunes says it detects a corrupt iPod, but says this over and over after I Restore it. When I get it working (usually at work on 10.4 (I've got 10.3.9 here at home)), (iTunes 7.3.2 in both cases) it freezes whenever I try to put anything on it. I know, or think, that the latest iTunes isn't compatible with older than 10.4, and this is sort of when the problem started happening. Is this the problem? I've restored it at work, which works but tells me to plug it into the wall (?), and I've used Disk Repair to fix it as well, but no go. You're telling me 2 years and it's time to fork over another 3-400 bones?

Any help would be great, since in my country (America) it's not exactly legal to walk down the street without an iPod. Thanks!

Hi luap82,

I don't know if you've seen the support page on Apple's website but I thought I'd give the link just in case ...

Having trouble with your iPod?

Another option is to try iLounge.com, they are a dedicated iPod/iPhone site:

All things iPod, iPhone, iTunes and beyond | iLounge

I'm sorry I can't be of more help than that ...

Try resetting the iPod at least 6 times in a row. It's a brute force approach, but it may work and you have nothing to lose since you've tried everything else.

It worked for me on an old 20 GB clickwheel, where the Genius Bar couldn't do anything. An independent Mac repair shop got it running with a reset, but then it reverted. So, I tried the above brute force approach, just resetting it over and over.

It's been holding OK for over 3 months now.
