I suppose it's well known that if you have music playing and try to browse in Safari, the music will quit playing. Since decoding AACs and rendering anti-aliased web pages are about the two most processor-intensive things the iPhone can do, I've put this down to just overloading the processor and figure they'll eventually figure out how to keep both going and release a fix. My iPhone firmware is the latest, etc. But if there is anyway to fix it now, I'd like to know.
Oh, this is on WiFi. Not that it doesn't happen on EDGE, it's just that I can't remember having tried it on EDGE. Would that stop it? Just switching off WiFi and using EDGE while listening to music and using Safari at the same time. Doubling up on other tasks, mail, widgets, calendar, with music, they all work. Just Web browsing causes music to stop playing.

I've read people saying things have gotten better after both updates, but for me it's only marginally better. Out of the box, heavy surfing would ALWAYS cause the music to stop.
After two updates, they've got it down to happening only about 75% of the time. In fact, I've had a couple of scary hard crashes when doing both. Holding Home + Sleep for X number of seconds reboots, but it shouldn't come to that.
Both hard crashes occurred in transition from one track to another, while surfing.

My music just stops, no crash. And I can restart it... And it will stop again as soon as I went back to Safari for a couple minutes. I figure they'll get it fixed. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a big feature-and-bug-fix update to iPhone to coincide with the Sept. 5th iPod event. Of course I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't, either.

There's really nothing you can do about it. It's a major bug and one of my main complaints about the iPhone. (Depending on how you look at it, that says a lot about the overall quality of the phone, though.)
