I went on vacation last week and took my ipod charger, instead of the iphone charger, because it is smaller. (they are in theory the same exact hardware). For the first 6 days of the trip, my iphone charged without a problem.
But on the 7th day, i let the battery go below 20% capacity and the iphone would not charge. I eventually had to 'reset my settings' (thus losing my favorites, weather setup, etc) and once i rebooted the iphone, it started to charge again.
Two days later, the same thing happened. The iphone would not hold the charge, and only after i reset my settings would it charge.
This has never happened while using the iphone charger.
Has anyone had a similar problem?? Any thoughts??
Much appreciation,
Susette

Are you still using the iPod charger?
If so, this could be the exact problem, my friend tried his and it worked one day and not the next. He did not care, he just wanted to test it.

No. I am using the iphone charger now bc I don't trust the ipod charger. Apples says they are interchangable, but I am guessing that they are not. Thanks for the reply.

Same issue here. I have the smaller charging brick that came with the iPhone at my office. I use the larger iPod brick (same 5V output) at home with the iPhone charging stand. Yesterday, the phone stopped accepting a charge from the iPod brick. I brought home the smaller iPhone brick to test it, and it charged the phone perfectly. Hooked up the iPod brick again, and IT began to work again with the phone. Very weird. Going to buy a second small iPhone charging brick, and forget the iPod brick with the phone altogether. Something isn't right, despite the fact that Apple says they're interchangeable.

i know im a little late, but try backing up your iphone and then checking for updates. the latest update fixed a lot of bugs. i've read the battery is a firmware issue as opposed to actual hardware and should be resolved by updating the iphone. just make sure you back it up first.
if you need help you can always call 1800myiphone.
