So recently I have been reading up on all the third party applications that have been written for the iPhone, and I must say some I really really want. Problem is you have to add an "installer" type application and such to get them on and then do some other things. Do you normally have to do this with other smartphones? I know Apple wants to keep this locked down or such, but really...

If I do try the installer application do I void my warranty with the phone?
Will I run into problems down the road if there is a few firmware, such as loss of data, loss of third party applications, etc?
What about hardware, even though I am just installing applications is there hardware issues that could arise from this? Also is there a chance I could "brick" my iPhone where it will not work.
Anyone here have experience with using an installer application to get third party software on your iPhone yet? How are things?
