I went to mall of America apple store and they had the 16gb one's in. Bought it and canceled my online order when I got home. This thing is so cool. Am typing on it now to post this. The other stores in the twin cities did not have them in yet, glad I called around.

The release data everywhere was meant to be Sep 28 - check the US Apple Store. It just seems they've start trickling out early directly to some stores.
(Maybe Apple's new policy is "screw early adopters..." That is, the ones that pre-ordered 2 seconds after the online store came back online. Next they'll be dropping the price $50 for people who buy next month.)
But my theory is they're testing the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on a limited number of guinea pigs... There are bound to be purchase problems, and as customer support (humans) have to take care of these individually, they probably want to get all the kinks worked out before it's hit by a big number of new owners.
Might explain why the iPhone update with Wi-Fi Store isn't out yet either?

I hope so...after reading that the iPod Touch was "out there," I checked for the iPhone update, and there was none to be had.
Perhaps there are other bug fixes going into the update as well, and they are still being ironed out.

I went to the apple store in washington square in portland this afternoon and they had the 8gb in stock. I called them this morning and they said they have none in stock but to check back later. I guess I got lucky. I just started exploring the iPod and so far all I can say is wow! Safari is especially impressive and fast! Hope that all of you out there looking for one will get lucky like me.

yea it is working. Even better I have access to the iTunes japan store since I have an account there as well as the us store. I am starting to feel a bit more love for this iPod

Hey, I live in Portland too. Small world. I'm going to swing by the Pioneer Square Apple Store after work and see if they have any to play with. I want to check out the WiFi iTunes Store. Can't wait for it to come to the iPhone.

When is the Wifi music store coming to the iPhone? I know that Jobs said "later this month" in his keynote, but I read a USA Today article yesterday that said it was coming this week. So far I dont see anything...I'm assuming the article was wrong?

The Pioneer Square store is where I picked up my 16GB Touch - they got a small shipment yesterday, and by the time I got there at 8:00 PM they were all out (I reserved mine earlier in the day). They didn't have any models on display, although they might have set some up overnight.

No one knows but Apple. Most are speculating based on some evidence here and there. I would predict it will be out next week sometime. They won't make us iPhoners wait too long for the WiFi iTunes Store (I hope).
