Several weeks ago, one of my relatives, put a magnet in the same pocket as his iPod nano (by accident). The screen looks quite messed up. I've looked at some 3rd party screen-repairs for the iPod. TechRestore seems to be mentioned a lot in magazines that I've checked out. What should he do, get a repair from TechRestore, or is there a better option out there?

Thanks,
Mason

Maybe I should clarify myself, this is not a "hairline" scratch, this is a reaction from the magnet that made the screen half black. Do you have any suggestions as to what I should recommend to my friend?

Thanks,
Mason

I would say he needs to get the screen replaced. I also repair iPods @ Welcome to Atlanta iPod Repair
If he orders the screen from a vendor on ebay it will most likely come with the spudger to separate the case. The job isn't incredibly difficult and the procedure can be found at ifixit.com. The bear is reconnecting the clickwheel to the board.

Thanks for the two websites. Is there any difference between the 1st and 2nd gen. nano screens? iFixit is apparently sold out of the 1st gen. nano screens and he has a 1st gen nano I believe.

Yes there is a difference. I noticed you didn't state which model Nano you had but will assume its a 2nd Generation.
The 2nd Generation is a bit more difficult to repair if your not used to it.
Make sure the model before you purchase your new screen.

not to advertise, but Powerbook Medic - Powerbook Parts, Powerbook Repair, iBook and Macbook Upgrades seems to have the cheapest repair parts. I've ordered parts from them and everything went great. I think that repairing ipods is quite easy, but may not be for everyone.
