Hey guys,

Assuming its still possible to unlock an iPhone in a couple of months time, I have a query. I've a US holiday coming up, and I was thinking of buying a prepaid SIM anyway, so is it possible for a tourist to get an iPhone and sign up for a legitimate, prepaid account for use during the six weeks or so I'll be over there?

When I get home, of course, I'll be switching it to Optus or Vodafone as soon as humanly possible, but if I can use it as a prepaid in the meantime that would be the best option.

Any gotchas to this plan?

According to the local AT&T store, the prepaid being offered requires a monthly payment, not the buy minutes when you need it. I sent a email to AT&T to see if there are any exceptions due to already having a different carrier for another year and don't want to pay an early termination fee with sprint.
