I gotta say, it's getting pretty old seeing thread after thread with people complaining about their bricked iPhones, YOU violated clearly defined Terms of Service. Yes 1.1.1 update added some much needed fixes and some cool functionality, but it was also issued to enforce the Terms of Service YOU agreed to.
In all honesty you spent $400+ dollars on a fully functional phone and activated it by agreeing to abide by AT&T and Apple's Terms of Service. Now you've not only voided your warranty, but you have potentially thrown away $400 + $175 termination fee just to walk away (not to mention potentially being banished from AT&T Wireless service).
As an iPhone owner myself, I don't understand why people can't just enjoy them with all the functionality they included -- instead of having to push the threshold bordering on piracy.
The fact is Apple made a contract with AT&T, and together they pioneered many of the new technologies featured in the iPhone. So yes, AT&T and Apple have every right to defend patents and recoup their investment. T-Mobile, VZ, and the others don't have the iPhone in the US -- get over it. Breaking your existing non-AT&T contract will cost MUCH less than the $400+ wasted when your hacked iPhone gets bricked.
This forum community has always had a record ethics in not discussing piracy or enabling those who choose to do it. Why should this topic be any different? Why hasn't this forum's leadership made a clear stance?
Bottom line: Stop enabling. Respect patents and the Terms of Service YOU agreed to -- or else face the legal ramifications of your actions. Period.
